A CONSIDERED APPROACH
Built around the way
you’ll use it.
Vector artwork is built from editable paths rather than a fixed grid of pixels. The goal is clear outlines and purposeful shapes that stay sharp when resized. It is separate from creating machine stitch instructions.
01
Original reference
Use the clearest image available and identify anything that should change.
02
Intended output
Tell us if the artwork is for screen print, signage, transfers or another use.
03
Delivery needs
Specify the file type and whether editable text or outlined text is required.
BEFORE YOU START
A clearer brief.
A better starting point.
Use your clearest source artwork. Include the finished size, application and required date. Confirm price, deliverables and timing before placing an order.

Small choices.
A different finished result.
These decisions help define the project before the artwork or production plan is approved.
Vector Services: decisions to confirm
| Decision | What to specify | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Faithful redraw or redesign | Explain whether the image should be reconstructed exactly or intentionally changed. | Cleaning artwork is different from creating a new visual identity. |
| Editable text or outlines | Choose the handoff that suits the next production step. | Editable text may need the correct font; outlines preserve the drawn shapes. |
| Spot color or full color | Provide the printer’s color workflow requirements. | The intended output determines which color setup is appropriate. |
ILLUSTRATIVE PROJECT BRIEF
Put the details into context.
A brand logo rebuilt for print and merchandise. Identify the approved colors, required file formats and whether the wording should remain editable.
BEFORE YOU SAY YES
Review the details.
Then take the next step.

01
Against the reference
Compare wording, proportions, linework and colors with the approved source.
02
At output size
Check small elements and line weights at the actual print or production dimensions.
03
With the next supplier
Confirm color setup, fonts, background treatment and the requested file format.
04
Before release
Open the delivered artwork in the intended workflow and verify that necessary assets are included.
ABOUT THIS SERVICE
Vector Services
questions, answered.
More questions about your design? Include the specific application and your artwork when you prepare your brief.
Will a vector file make a photograph fully editable?
A photograph and a shape-based illustration are different types of artwork. A stylized reconstruction may be possible, but it will not preserve every photographic detail as simple paths.
Can I use vector artwork directly on an embroidery machine?
A vector file is a source for design and printing. Embroidery still requires a stitch file prepared for the application.
Which delivery format should I request?
Use the format specified by the print or production partner. Explain whether they need editable artwork, outlined text, a transparent background or a specific color setup.
What counts as a change in scope?
A new composition, additional illustration, changed wording or a different production requirement may change the work. Define revisions and deliverables in the project agreement.
